DAVID ORTH
Sculpture

To those who know me as a furniture designer, I hope that my separate life as a sculptor is not a big surprise. Frankly, for me, it all blurs together. A chair is a sculpture to sit in, and sculpture is a hat rack for the brain. About five hundred years ago "they" started making craftsmen/artists choose between art and craft - between mind and body. Forget that.

I have designed and constructed sculpture at a variety of scales, in both wood and metal, for both indoors and outdoors, public and private spaces. Among the sculptors whom I consider my teachers are Brancusi, Noguchi, Calder, Puryear, Serra, Kiefer, untold African, Oceanic, Incan, and Inuit artists.

I welcome your inquiries about tabletop, human scale, or monumental sculpture. Since our move to a rural landscape, I've become especially interested in doing human scale outdoor pieces for gardens and as outdoor accents for homes.
